John worked his entire 43-year career with Specialized Construction, Inc., starting on the ground floor, becoming a union laborer and then a Foreman, before being promoted to Manager and Estimator. After a number of years, John and his partner acquired Specialized from the founder in 1998. John quickly learned what it meant to be an owner, which is to say the need to be flexible and “wear many hats” in order to push the company forward
Post ownership, John held the title of Treasurer while continuing to estimate, manage crews, negotiate union contracts, negotiate banking relationships, help with business development, and strengthen relationships with municipalities around the state. In 2008, after hiring and developing a management team, John began focusing his efforts on estimating and managing the finance function, including banking, bonding, insurance, and accounting
